CBS News YouGov poll: 70 percent of Americans say the war with Iran has been harder than Trump predicted

27 July 2026 | 3 months ago

Eghtesad Online, citing the ISNA news agency, reported that a joint CBS News and YouGov poll released on the evening of Sunday, 26 July 2026 (4 Mordad 1405), found that 70 percent of respondents believe the US war against Iran has been harder than Donald Trump predicted. Twenty percent described it as in line with his predictions and only 4 percent as easier.

According to the poll, 58 percent of participants felt uncertainty about the war, 57 percent frustration and 36 percent pessimism, while only 19 percent expressed optimism. In addition, 83 percent of Americans aged 18 to 29 want the war to end, against 17 percent in that age group who favour continuing it. The survey covered 2,193 US adults between 22 and 24 July, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.

CBS News reported that reopening the Strait of Hormuz still matters to most Americans, particularly given rising gasoline prices in the United States, with half of respondents describing fuel costs as difficult or hard to bear. For Iran's markets, US public opinion is one of the variables shaping the course of the war and, through it, global oil prices, the exchange rate and the gold market.
