Iran's tax administration says interim VAT refunds are now calculated and paid systemically

Eghtesad Online, citing Tasnim News Agency on Monday, 27 July 2026 (5 Mordad 1405), reported that Mohammad Nouri, director general of the taxpayers' systems development office at Iran's tax administration, said implementation of the store terminals and taxpayer system law has improved the quality of taxpayer self declaration and reduced the incentive to file false returns.
He said that under the tax credit chain mechanism, granting any credit depends on another party in the transaction chain having accepted the corresponding liability. Nouri added that interim value added tax refunds are now calculated and paid systemically, with final determination made under the regulations after the file is reviewed, turning refund processing from a human dependent procedure into a data driven one.
He said that before the system was introduced, verifying purchases and sales and matching invoices relied largely on manual checks, which delayed refunds and reduced firms' working capital. Faster refund payments, he said, ease pressure on working capital and prevent liquidity strains, a point that matters for manufacturing companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange.
