CENTCOM: US Strikes Iran for Eighth Consecutive Night, Hitting Air Defenses and Missile and Drone Depots
19 July 2026 | 3 months ago
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces struck targets in Iran for the eighth consecutive night early on Sunday, 19 July 2026. According to CENTCOM's official release, the strikes, carried out on Saturday evening US time (18 July, 11:30 p.m. Eastern), hit Iranian coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites.
CENTCOM said the operation was a response to a Friday (17 July) attack on a base in Jordan that killed two US service members and left one missing, and that it also targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces it says were responsible for that attack. Global oil and gold markets and Iran's domestic currency market have spent recent weeks under the shadow of the confrontation and the Strait of Hormuz crisis.
