Central Bank Backs Balance-Sheet Limits and a Revised Reserve Ratio After Special Monetary and FX Policy Meeting

Sahmino Newsroom | 5 November 2026 | 20 hours ago

The Central Bank of Iran issued a statement on Thursday, 5 November 2026 (14 Aban 1405), about a "special monetary and foreign-exchange policy meeting". On the monetary side, the main lines set were continuing the quantitative controls on bank balance sheets, reviewing how open market operations are organised to suit economic conditions, and revising the statutory reserve ratio to manage reserves in the interbank market. On foreign exchange, the meeting looked at obstacles to the repatriation of export proceeds, and the bank said it will take steps to remove them.

For banking supervision, the statement stressed pursuing better capital adequacy ratios at banks through the relevant authorities and restructuring imbalanced banks. The central bank said the package aims to strengthen monetary discipline, improve the interbank market and support the stability of the banking network. The statement gives no specific figure for the reserve ratio or the balance-sheet limits.
