Nasser Atabati, head of the Tehran Province judiciary, said on Thursday 5 November 2026 (14 Aban 1405), at a meeting with judges and managers of the special economic-crimes complex, that according to the report presented about 10.5 billion euros of foreign currency has so far returned to the country through FX cases. He added that sums worth 3,060 billion rials (306 billion tomans) have been offset, that 68 defendants, including 39 managers of large industrial and commercial companies, have been arrested, and that 30 large companies, among them petrochemical firms, have fully met their FX obligations. These figures are a judicial official's statements, and the report cites no independent source for them.
Atabati put the inflow of FX and economic cases up 250%, from 1,200 in the Iranian year 1404 to 4,200 in 1405, and said about 16 key defendants are on the run abroad and extradition needs to be pursued. He said organised networks have exploited low-income people to register trade cards and create FX obligations, and called for closer coordination among the Central Bank, customs and the judiciary and for use of joint-guarantee provisions to collect obligations.
