12 October 2026 | 8 days ago

Vahid Majed, the Central Bank's deputy for monetary policy and Iran's representative at the Group of 24 (G-24) deputies' meeting on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, presented four specific proposals on the group's draft statement. Mehr reported on Monday, 20 Mehr 1405 (12 October 2026), citing the Central Bank, that the proposals focus on amending paragraphs 1, 5, 7 and 9 of the draft.

First, he asked that, alongside ending violence, the statement explicitly address "the exercise of coercion" and that the G-24 call for coordinated efforts to reduce the economic consequences of conflicts, including reconstruction. Second, in the 17th General Review of Quotas of the International Monetary Fund he stressed the need for consensus on a meaningful realignment of quotas and said voluntary financial contributions should not enter the new quota formula. Third, on the World Bank Group's 2025 shareholding review and the settlement of unallocated IBRD and IFC shares, he described the 2030 review as a chance to correct imbalances and raise the World Bank's capital base. Mehr's report names a fourth area, climate finance commitments, but gives no detail on it.
