12 October 2026 | 8 days ago

Foroud Asgari, head of Iran's Customs Administration and a deputy economy minister, said on Sunday evening, 19 Mehr 1405 (11 October 2026), at a meeting on cross-border trade obstacles in Kurdistan province, held at the Bashmaq border crossing in Marivan, that the customs post is ready for 24-hour operation; staffing, through new hires and the dispatch of specialists, and coordination with the Iraqi side are on the agenda.

He said that despite the recent difficult conditions customs operations did not stop, and at one point 9,000 trucks of essential goods a day could be cleared and sent out from southern ports. To help traders' and producers' liquidity, bank guarantee deadlines have been extended to Khordad next year, valid bank cheques are allowed for those who cannot obtain guarantees, and more than 400 dedicated warehouse contracts have been signed with the private sector.

Asgari added that under the comprehensive resolution of 9 articles and 30 notes, declaration, document review, assessment and sampling are to be done at origin customs offices as far as possible, so that trucks pass the exit border through the green lane and smart risk management and terminals do not turn into places where goods pile up. He said the necessary legal powers have also been delegated to Kurdistan's customs director general to speed up work in the Baneh and Marivan free trade-industrial zone. Mehr News Agency reported his remarks.
