The Kurdistan Regional Government's counterterrorism agency said on Monday, 26 Mordad 1405 (August 17, 2026), that two Hadid-110 drones, which it said were launched from Iranian territory, targeted the private office of Iraqi Kurdish Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and the residence of the region's security and intelligence chief in Erbil. According to Al Jazeera, citing the agency and Iraq's official news agency, no casualties were reported in the attack.
Barzani condemned the attack in a post on X as illegitimate and unacceptable and a direct threat to the security and stability of the Kurdistan Region. No official Iranian source has confirmed the attack so far. Iran and Iran-aligned groups have previously accused Iraq's Kurdistan region of harboring Iranian Kurdish opposition groups, an allegation Iraqi Kurdish authorities deny.
