Electric and hybrid vehicles account for more than half of Turkey's car sales in first seven months of 2026

According to Daily Sabah, reporting on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 (14 Mordad 1405) on data compiled by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), despite an overall contraction in Turkey's auto market, the combined share of electric and hybrid vehicles rose to 51.7 percent in the first seven months of 2026, exceeding half of the 259,970 vehicles sold in the period for the first time, driven mainly by strong hybrid demand.
Over the same period, total car sales in Turkey fell 12.14 percent year on year to 502,712 units, and light commercial vehicle sales dropped 5.05 percent to 136,253 units. The share of gasoline cars fell from 45.3 percent in the first seven months of last year to 41.4 percent this year, while the hybrid share rose from 28 to 33 percent and the electric share rose from 18.1 to 18.7 percent. Even so, electric car sales alone fell 27.1 percent year on year in July.
