The US dollar on Tehran's free market extended its climb on Tuesday, 14 July (23 Tir), reaching about 183,000 tomans in afternoon trade, its highest level in a month. The dollar had opened the session near 181,000 tomans and gained through the day.
Pressure on the rial has persisted as the military tensions between Iran and the United States intensify and uncertainty over shipping through the Strait of Hormuz continues. The same trend has lifted domestic gold and coin prices in recent days.
