The free-market US dollar extended its rise on Wednesday, 15 July 2026 (24 Tir 1405), reaching its highest level in a month. Trading opened around 184,100 tomans and the rate climbed to roughly 186,700 tomans by midday, up about 1.4 percent (around 2,600 tomans) from the previous day. The agreed-rate (tavafoqi) dollar traded in the same range, near 186,700 tomans.
The intensifying military standoff between Iran and the United States over the Strait of Hormuz, together with the continued naval blockade of Iranian ports, has added to pressure on the rial in recent days. The free-market dollar has roughly doubled compared with the same date a year earlier.
