G20 Finance Chiefs Meet in Bangkok With the Iran War's Fallout and Hormuz Disruption on the Agenda

Al Jazeera reported that G20 finance ministers and central bank governors gather in Bangkok on Thursday, 23 Mehr 1405 (October 15, 2026), alongside the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, held from October 12 to 18. The economic fallout from the US-Israel war on Iran and the disruption to shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, which has kept crude above 100 dollars a barrel for much of the past eight months, is expected to dominate the talks, Al Jazeera wrote.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who chairs the G20 this year, is absent; Washington is represented by Deputy Secretary Francis Brooke and Under Secretary for International Affairs Erin Browne. Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers called for an end to the fighting and the reopening of the strait, and IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva warned on Wednesday of the threat from mounting debt. The G20 leaders' summit is set for December 14 and 15 in Miami. Mehr reported that Iran's central bank governor and economy minister are also in Bangkok on the sidelines of the meetings.
