Global Dollar Stays on Track for a Second Weekly Gain Despite Friday Dip as the Yen Firms

25 September 2026 · 11 days ago

According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, citing Reuters, the US dollar index fell about 0.3 percent to 100.96 in trading on Friday, 3 Mehr 1405 (September 25, 2026), but after hitting a two-month high on Thursday it remains on course for a second straight weekly gain. Last week's tighter Federal Reserve policy, upbeat US economic data and the rise in long-dated Treasury yields to their highest in more than two decades have underpinned the move.

The Japanese yen jumped after Japan's finance minister said Trump had voiced concern about the yen's weakness in a meeting with Japan's prime minister. According to Sahmino data, the dollar fell about 1 percent against the yen to 157.4 as of 19:30 Tehran time on Friday. The euro traded slightly higher at about $1.14, though Reuters said it was heading for a third straight weekly loss.

A strong global dollar and high US yields are among the pressures on global gold, which is also heading for a weekly loss this week.
