Fatemeh Mohajerani, the Iranian government spokesperson, said on Sunday 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405) that the country's strategic drug reserves are at an acceptable level and that there is no problem on that front.
She cited sanctions as one cause of imbalance in the pharmaceutical market, and said damage to some drug companies during the war, the naval blockade and attacks on part of the fleet carrying medicines were further causes of disruption, adding that these factors have largely been resolved.
Mohajerani said part of the arrears owed to pharmaceutical companies was paid during the war and the remainder is being settled, with working capital for those firms arranged through the Plan and Budget Organization. She described the domestic pharmaceutical industry's self sufficiency as considerable but stressed the need to import raw materials. On the health ministry's claims against insurers, she said the health and welfare ministers are pursuing the matter with the Plan and Budget Organization.
