Government spokesperson says the 3,000 toman petrol tier has been cut to 50 litres while the 60 litre quota at 1,500 toman stays

2 August 2026 | 3 months ago

Fatemeh Mohajerani, the Iranian government spokesperson, said on Sunday 2 August 2026 (11 Mordad 1405) that the 60 litre petrol quota priced at 1,500 toman a litre remains in place and its rate will not change.

She said the quota priced at 3,000 toman a litre, which stood at 100 litres when the scheme began, was reduced to 70 litres during the war and now stands at 50 litres. Mohajerani added that the open market petrol price remains at the previous level of 5,000 toman a litre, and that any decision to raise it will be announced before it takes effect. She stressed that no decision has been taken to cut the quota below 60 litres.

The spokesperson put the cost of delivering petrol to filling stations at about 4,000 toman a litre and domestic production capacity at roughly 100 million litres a day, saying that covering the gap leaves the government short of budget elsewhere. On linking fuel cards to bank cards, she said the scheme is running as a pilot and that nationwide rollout requires further security testing.
