Head of Agricultural Guilds Chamber: Border Wheat Dealers Are Paying Up to 60,000 Tomans, Above the Guaranteed Price

Peyman Alami, head of Iran's Agricultural Guilds Chamber, told Tasnim's economic desk, as carried by Ecoiran on Tuesday, 10 Shahrivar 1405 (September 1, 2026), that the guaranteed wheat purchase price is 49,500 tomans, but dealers across the country are buying wheat at about 38,000 to 44,000 tomans, and in border regions where wheat can be moved out of the country that figure reaches as high as 60,000 tomans.
Criticizing the government's delay in paying wheat farmers, he said the delay forces growers to sell their crop to dealers before receiving payment from the state. He said that despite earlier hopes of self sufficiency in wheat supply, guaranteed purchases are running behind projections because of these delays, with about 8 million tonnes bought so far this year. With the new planting season starting in two to three weeks, Alami warned that discouraged farmers, frustrated by delayed payments, could also affect next year's production.
