Wheat Growers' Foundation Head: Guaranteed Wheat Price Should Not Fall Below 85,000 Tomans, With Months of Delay in Setting It

17 October 2026 | 3 days ago

Ataollah Hashemi, head of the National Wheat Growers' Foundation and a member of the council that sets prices and support policies for staple farm products, told Mehr News Agency (published Saturday, 17 October 2026, 25 Mehr 1405) that the guaranteed purchase price of wheat for the coming crop year should not be below 85,000 tomans per kilogram. He said the figure includes a reasonable 20 percent profit for the farmer and, because it applies to the next 6 to 9 months, the real production price is higher. Hashemi said setting the price is months behind schedule and made the 85,000 toman proposal conditional on a review in late Esfand if inflation jumps.

He claimed the Plan and Budget Organization has a figure of around 60,000 tomans in mind and that its basis is unclear; the claim is his own and no government official has confirmed it. Earlier, on Monday, 5 October 2026 (13 Mehr 1405), the head of parliament's agriculture committee said the council members' current proposal averages 85,000 tomans and is not yet final. The guaranteed price for the current crop year was set at an average of 49,550 tomans.
