The head of Iran's Supreme Tax Council said on Monday 27 July 2026 that 5,000 companies suspected of being shell firms have been identified since Aban of last year, which corresponds to the autumn of 2025.
Shell companies are entities set up without any genuine economic activity, used mainly to issue fake invoices, transfer tax credits and disguise the movement of money. Identifying them is part of the tax administration's effort to close off tax evasion routes and improve transparency along the transaction chain.
The disclosure came alongside the release of tax revenue figures for the first four months of the Iranian year, which put collections for the period above 500 trillion tomans.
