Abdolnaser Hemmati, governor of the Central Bank of Iran, told Mehr News Agency on Monday, Shahrivar 2, 1405 (August 24, 2026), at a meeting with members of Iran's Entrepreneurs Assembly, that the central bank began stockpiling foreign currency last Bahman in anticipation of difficult conditions ahead, and can now confidently guarantee FX supply for essential goods and medicine. He said the FX needed by industry would also be secured by year end, with $20 billion allocated to that sector.
Hemmati said the bank has supplied an average of $175 million a day in FX since the start of the current year, compared with about $205 million a day in the same period last year. He described the recent widening of the market exchange rate gap as "temporary" and said currency policy should not change because of short term fluctuations. He also said monthly inflation in Mordad was about 4 percent and liquidity growth has slowed.
