According to Eghtesad Online, citing the public relations office of the Central Bank of Iran, Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati said, in a meeting whose account was published on Sunday, 26 July 2026 (4 Mordad 1405), that the central bank's core objective is to control and curb inflation and inflationary expectations while simultaneously preventing recession and a fall into negative economic growth.
He added that support for the productive sector and entrepreneurs must be delivered without expanding the monetary base and in a fully directed manner. Hemmati described the balance-sheet imbalances of some banks and credit institutions as one of the drivers of inflation, saying the central bank has drawn up a comprehensive package of supervisory and disciplinary measures to address it. He said that despite international pressures and financial restrictions, management of the foreign exchange market and the supply chain proceeded such that there was no disruption to imports and supply of essential goods, medicine and medical supplies.
According to the report, avoiding shock therapy, reforming the central bank's relationship with the banking network, preventing faster liquidity growth, issuing short-term foreign currency bonds, data-driven governance and regular control of bank balance sheets were among the other topics discussed at the meeting.
