Houthis fire missiles at Aramco facilities in Jizan and Yanbu; Saudi Arabia intercepts two
25 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Yahya Saree, the military spokesman for Yemen's Houthis, said on Saturday, 25 July 2026, that the group had targeted facilities affiliated with the Saudi oil company Aramco in Jizan and Yanbu with "dozens" of ballistic and cruise missiles and drones. Saree described the attacks as a response to Saudi Arabia's bombing of the port of Hodeidah and Kamaran Island.
Air defence systems in Saudi Arabia intercepted two ballistic missiles fired from Yemen on Saturday that had targeted the Yanbu refineries, and Saudi authorities issued emergency warnings for Yanbu and Jazan. Reuters verified video posted on social media showing a large column of smoke rising from the direction of the Aramco refinery in Jizan. As of publication no official report of the extent of any damage had been released, and Aramco had not responded to requests for comment.
Jizan and Yanbu are two of Saudi Arabia's important terminals and refineries on its Red Sea coast, the very route Riyadh had counted on as an alternative for its oil exports after traffic through the Strait of Hormuz collapsed. Targeting these facilities puts the fallback route at risk too and keeps the risk premium in global oil prices elevated, which feeds directly into Iran's currency market and inflation expectations.
