Yemen's Houthis Claim Third Attack on Saudi Aramco's Jazan Refinery in Two Weeks

18 August 2026 · 2 months ago

According to Oilprice.com, published on Tuesday, 18 August 2026 (27 Mordad 1405), Yemen's Houthi group claimed it targeted Saudi Aramco's Jazan refinery on the Red Sea coast with a number of drones, in what Oilprice.com said was the group's third claimed attack on the same refinery in two weeks. A Houthi military source told the group-affiliated Saba news agency the strike was in response to "violations of Yemeni airspace over the Saada and Hajjah governorates." Saudi Arabia had not confirmed or denied the claim as of this report.

The 400,000 barrel-per-day Jazan refinery was shut down at the end of July (Tir) after an attack the Houthis claimed responsibility for. Per Oilprice.com, escalating Houthi threats have pushed Saudi Arabia to reroute part of its oil exports from the Red Sea port of Yanbu through the Suez Canal to Egypt's Sidi Kerir port on the Mediterranean, with some Asian refiners asking Aramco to have their cargoes picked up at Sidi Kerir instead.
