Hunter Biden's LAPTOP Crypto Token Loses Nearly 99 Percent of Its Value Minutes After Launch

10 September 2026 · 29 days ago

According to Decrypt, the LAPTOP crypto token, launched by Hunter Biden, son of former US President Joe Biden, at 8am ET on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 (18 Shahrivar 1405) on Base (Coinbase's Ethereum layer two network), hit a peak price of $190.81 just two minutes later. Blockchain analytics firm Arkham reported that peak implied a fully diluted valuation near $144 billion, against a liquidity pool holding just $48,000.

That gap between valuation and actual liquidity set up the token's rapid collapse; within 30 minutes LAPTOP had shed about 90 percent of its value, and by the one hour mark it traded near $4.77. According to the Washington Post and Bloomberg, the price stabilized in the one to two dollar range later that day, down nearly 99 percent from its peak. About 80 percent of traders who bought LAPTOP lost money, according to data from the platform Bubblemaps. Hunter Biden blamed the crash on sniper bots and thin liquidity, and denied that any insiders had bought before launch.
