Inspection Organization Chief Criticizes Banks Over Marriage and Childbirth Loan Queues
16 August 2026 | 2 months ago
According to Boursenews, Khodaeian, head of Iran's General Inspection Organization, said on Sunday, 25 Mordad 1405 (August 16, 2026), that with 614,000 applicants in the marriage loan queue and 515,000 in the childbirth loan queue, the situation was unacceptable, and called on the central bank to seriously enforce banks' legally mandated quotas for these loans.
He also said the banking network's official ratio of non performing loans to total loans is reported at about 10 percent, but the real figure, especially for foreign currency facilities, is higher, attributing this mainly to weak borrower credit screening. The inspection chief also said some banks had faced repeated cyberattacks during the recent war and called for strengthening passive defense in the sector.
