Iran Energy Exchange Restricts Traditional Power Trades as Online System Takes Over
15 October 2026 | 5 days ago
Mohammad Nazifi, head of Iran's Energy Exchange, told a meeting with representatives of the power utility Tavanir and the grid operator, reported on Wednesday, 22 Mehr 1405 (October 14, 2026), that traditional electricity trades, which have run alongside online trades since Bahman last year, have been restricted and transactions are to take place online only. Mehr News Agency reported the move citing the exchange.
Nazifi said the online system could reduce unusual access and human error, and make supply and demand more transparent to market participants. The meeting also discussed bringing trading closer to power delivery and developing the electricity export market. Shorter intervals between a trade and delivery were a proposal, not an implemented rule.
