Iran's Rail Builder Says Chabahar to Zahedan Track Laying Is Complete, Welding Under Way

15 October 2026 | 5 days ago

Houshang Bazvand, chief executive of Iran's Transport Infrastructure Construction and Development Company, said on Thursday, 23 Mehr 1405 (October 15, 2026), that track laying on the Chabahar to Zahedan railway finished about a month ago, while welding and remaining work are still under way. He made opening by the end of the Iranian year 1405 conditional on the current pace of work continuing; the line has not opened yet.

Bazvand said 4,000 billion tomans (4 trillion tomans) from oil-sale proceeds had been allocated to the project, while funding efforts continue. Linking Chabahar by rail to the national network matters for moving port cargo and completing transit routes. The opening date remains a company target rather than a confirmed service start.
