Iran Parliament Security Committee Chief Says Law on Full Sovereignty Over Strait of Hormuz Is Being Drafted
12 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Ebrahim Azizi, chair of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told reporters on the evening of Tuesday, August 11, 2026 (20 Mordad 1405) that a law is being drafted under which no hostile vessel, military or commercial, from hostile states will be allowed to enter the Persian Gulf without Iran's permission. According to Donya-e-Eqtesad, Azizi described the law as comparable in importance to Iran's 1951 oil nationalization law and said the measure was already approved at committee level during the recent war and is now moving toward final passage. He claimed that not a single US warship is currently present in the Persian Gulf, compared with 14 bases and hundreds of vessels the US previously maintained in the region. Azizi also said Iran's talks with regional states on the strait's security should continue without a return to what he called previous miscalculations.
