Iran reports first night without US strikes in two weeks; Trump says Tehran wants a deal

Iran said on Saturday, 25 July 2026 that it had passed the first night without a US strike in about two weeks. Health Ministry spokesman Hossein Kermanpour wrote on X that the country had a peaceful night with no attacks reported. It marks the first break in a run of nightly strikes that had continued over the past two weeks amid the dispute over control of the Strait of Hormuz.
US President Donald Trump said on Saturday he believes Iran wants a deal and that talks are continuing. The White House said negotiations between the two countries are ongoing, while stressing that strikes could resume at the president's discretion. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also emphasized diplomacy and dialogue in an interview published Saturday.
Tensions nonetheless remain high: early Saturday, warning sirens sounded in Saudi Arabia's Yanbu and Jizan provinces and in Bahrain before being lifted shortly after, and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively halted. The developments bear on Iran's currency and gold markets, which fell on Saturday, and on global oil prices.
