Iran's Foreign Ministry said on Friday, 11 September 2026 (20 Shahrivar 1405), that it will meet with Gulf Cooperation Council states and Iraq in Oman next Monday to discuss the Strait of Hormuz. According to Al Jazeera, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said the meeting is intended to "promote better understanding among the countries of the region and help strengthen shared regional security," adding that Iran remains committed to ensuring the security of navigation in the strait. Iran and Oman, which both border the strait, have spent several weeks discussing the future management of the strategic waterway and agreed last month on a shipping route, mine clearing and short-term management arrangements. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, speaking the same day on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in India, said his country faces "critical and dangerous" pressure from sanctions and military aggression by the United States and Israel.
