Al Jazeera reported that Iran-backed Houthi forces, following a rapid advance against Yemeni government forces, had by Friday, 11 September 2026 (20 Shahrivar 1405) seized full control of Yemen's Red Sea coastline, capturing three strategic islands and cementing their hold on the shipping corridor linking Europe and Asia. In response, the Yemeni Air Force struck Houthi positions in the Mocha and Dhubab area on Friday, hitting vehicles and fighters, according to Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Majid Abdullah al-Nuzaili, as reported by Anadolu Agency. Yemen had seen a relative lull since 2022, but tensions have risen again since late 2023.
