Iranian Parliament Security Committee Spokesman: General Framework of Iran-Oman Understanding Is Set
7 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Hassan Ghashqavi, spokesman for the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told IRNA on Friday, August 7, 2026 (16 Mordad 1405) that the general framework of an understanding between Iran and Oman is nearly settled, though a final decision must come from higher levels. He said officials are awaiting a final agreement and a joint statement that will clarify many of the broad outlines, with details to be released soon.
The remarks come as Iran-Oman talks over arrangements concerning the Strait of Hormuz have been a key driver of global oil price swings in recent weeks; Brent crude traded back above $83 a barrel on Friday. Ghashqavi said officials must wait for the final results to be announced.
