Energy Minister Abbas Aliabadi said on Sunday, 26 July 2026 (4 Mordad 1405), that a total of 668 megawatts was added to Iran's power generation capacity over the past week, and that on average about 100 megawatts is being added to capacity each week.
He said a combined cycle unit in Assaluyeh with a capacity of 160 megawatts and a value of 26 trillion tomans has been synchronised and is stably connected to the national grid. A 55 megawatt hydroelectric unit together with two small 5 megawatt plants, 65 megawatts in total, has come online at the Chamshir power station, while a unit at Ferdowsi in Mashhad is in its final stages.
On renewables, the minister said 70 megawatts of solar capacity entered service last week and roughly 100 megawatts of further solar capacity will come online this week. The figures were announced during a summer in which Iran's power shortfall has led to consumption limits on industry and cuts to high consumption public bodies in Tehran.
