Iran's Foreign Ministry condemns US and Saudi strikes on areas in Iraq

Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned strikes by the United States and Saudi Arabia on some areas in Iraq, in a statement issued on Wednesday, 29 July 2026. According to the statement, the targets included facilities and premises belonging to official Iraqi bodies, as well as the mawakib and stations serving Arbaeen pilgrims.
The ministry described the strikes as an infringement of Iraq's national sovereignty and territorial integrity and a violation of Article 2, paragraph 4, of the United Nations Charter. It offered condolences for the Iraqis killed, affirmed Iran's solidarity with the Iraqi government and people, and held the United States and its regional partners responsible for the consequences of these actions.
The Popular Mobilisation Forces had earlier put the toll from the strikes at 20 killed and 32 wounded. Developments in Iraq on Wednesday, 29 July, were among the main drivers of the jump in oil prices and the rise in the regional risk premium, a variable that feeds through to Iran's markets via oil and gold prices and the exchange rate.
