Iran's Government Economic Coordination Council Meets on FX Volatility and Wartime Economic Management

Iran's government Economic Coordination Council met on the afternoon of Saturday, Mehr 11, 1405 (October 3, 2026), with President Masoud Pezeshkian in attendance. According to EcoIran, the meeting reviewed the latest state of the foreign exchange market, the budget's sources and uses, foreign trade, and the supply of essential goods. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance presented a report on the government's finances amid declining oil and tax revenue linked to wartime conditions, stressing the need for tighter fiscal policy coordination. The Plan and Budget Organization presented a seven point proposal for managing current conditions. The Agriculture Jihad Minister said there is no shortage of essential goods at present. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, described the current period as among the country's hardest, referencing the ongoing negotiation track, and called for closer coordination among state bodies. The meeting followed a simultaneous jump in the dollar, gold and the gold coin on Tehran's free market in recent days.
