Iran's interior minister in Islamabad for talks on Pakistan's mediation to halt the Iran-US war
22 July 2026 | 3 months ago
Iran's Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni traveled to Pakistan and met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and army chief General Asim Munir on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. According to Pakistani media, the meetings centered on Islamabad's effort to de-escalate tensions between Iran and the United States and to revive the Islamabad Memorandum; border management and expanding bilateral trade toward a 10 billion dollar target were also on the agenda.
The talks came as US airstrikes on Iran continued for an 11th night and after Iran had earlier declared a full suspension of its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum. The fate of this mediation matters for Iranian markets, since any sign of de-escalation or further escalation feeds directly into the war risk premium in the oil, gold and currency markets.
