Iran's State Mining Royalties Will Now Be Calculated on Actual Extraction
21 September 2026 · 16 days ago
Iran's Supreme Council of Mines changed how state mining royalties are calculated for the first half of 1405, under a directive from Vajihollah Jafari, deputy minister of mines and mining industries at the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade and secretary of the council, reported by EcoIran on Monday, September 21, 2026 (30 Shahrivar 1405). Under the new rule, royalties for mines that were active in the second half of 1404 and reached at least 50 percent of their annual nominal licensed capacity, and are not on the Article 20 mines list, will now be calculated on actual extraction rather than the nominal capacity listed on their operating license.
The directive cites economic restrictions and wartime conditions as factors reducing extraction below nominal capacity. For seasonal mines, the operating period set in their approved development plan will be used as the calculation basis.
