Supreme Mining Council Rules That First-Half 1405 Mining Royalties Be Charged on Actual Extraction
12 October 2026 | 7 days ago
The Supreme Mining Council has ruled that mining royalties for the first six months of 1405 be calculated and collected on actual extraction rather than nominal capacity, a decision taken because of the continuing consequences of the third imposed war. Mehr reported it on Monday, 12 October 2026 (20 Mehr 1405), citing the Iran Chamber of Commerce. According to the report, the council's vote, issued under note 4 of article 12 of the Mining Law, is final and binding.
Mining associations, including the stone, iron ore and copper associations and the union of lead and zinc product exporters, have long argued that charging royalties on nominal capacity is unprofessional and makes mining activity unviable. The issue was earlier raised at the 133rd meeting of the Government and Private Sector Dialogue Council and referred to the Supreme Mining Council.
The report does not state the royalty amount or how much miners' payments will fall; for now the decision covers only the first six months of this year.
