The UK Maritime Trade Operations center (UKMTO) said on Monday, September 21, 2026 (30 Shahrivar 1405), that a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified projectile. Two crew members sustained superficial injuries, but the vessel continued under its own power toward its next port of call. UKMTO said no environmental impact has been reported so far and authorities are investigating. The center did not disclose the tanker's name, flag or owner, nor the type or origin of the projectile. The Strait of Hormuz, the main export route for Persian Gulf oil, has seen months of similar scattered incidents, and each new one can weigh on shipping insurance costs and oil market risk premiums.
