Iran's statistics centre reports chicken and bananas cheaper in Tir while dairy and cooking oil lead annual price rises
2 August 2026 | 3 months ago
A report by the Statistical Centre of Iran on food price changes in Tir 1405, the month ending 22 July 2026, shows the price of chicken fell about 14 percent from the previous month and bananas about 13 percent. Even so, both items are dearer than a year earlier, chicken by about 190 percent and bananas by about 100 percent.
In the dairy group, pasteurised milk rose 6 percent on the month and 150 percent on the year, while yoghurt rose 8 percent and 130 percent over the same periods. Among cooking oils, liquid oil rose 3 percent on the month and 344 percent on the year, while solid cooking oil was about 400 percent more expensive than a year earlier. Apples rose 17 percent from the previous month.
The data show that occasional monthly declines in some items have not offset the surge in prices over the past year.
