Iraq: Crude Exports to Jordan Halted, as Jordanian Refineries Cannot Process Basra Medium
13 October 2026 | 8 days ago
Salim al-Rikabi, spokesman for Iraq's Oil Ministry, said Iraq's crude oil exports to Jordan have stopped because of technical issues related to the characteristics of the crude and Jordan's refineries. EcoIran published the report, citing Mehr, on Monday 20 Mehr 1405 (12 October 2026).
He said Jordan's refineries had previously received light Kirkuk crude, which suited their operating conditions, but some of that grade is no longer available. Iraq has proposed that Jordan take Basra Medium crude instead, but the Jordanian side has said its refineries cannot process that grade. The report does not give the volume of exports that stopped.
Jordan is a small buyer of Iraqi crude, and the news draws attention to the mix of oil Iraq can offer at a time when southern Iraqi exports via the Persian Gulf are under pressure. The report cites no direct effect on global oil prices.
