Japan's Nikkei jumps 3.3% on Tuesday as buyers return to chip stocks
21 July 2026 · 3 months ago
Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index closed Tuesday, July 21, up 2,091 points, or 3.26 percent, at 66,232, while the broader TOPIX gained 2.44 percent to 4,015.
The jump was a technical rebound after a three-day decline, as investors, with last week's worries easing, returned to semiconductor and artificial-intelligence-related shares. In the currency market, the dollar traded in the mid-162 yen range, a tailwind for Japan's export-oriented stocks. Market attention now turns to upcoming earnings reports from major US technology companies.
