Japan's Nikkei closes 0.5 percent higher at 64,931 points on Monday

Japan's stock market closed higher on Monday, 27 July 2026. The Nikkei 225 rose 0.5 percent to end at 64,931 points, while the broader Topix index gained 1.37 percent to 4,066 points.
The main driver was the sharp fall in oil prices after the United States and Iran halted their exchange of strikes at the end of last week. Japan is one of the world's largest crude importers and sources much of its oil through the Strait of Hormuz, so a lower energy risk premium feeds directly into its industrial and transport shares. For Iran's market, the channel runs through global oil demand and the direction of crude prices.
