Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization and Kazakhstan signed a 27-year Build-Operate-Transfer agreement (2 years construction, 25 years operation) on July 7, 1405 (June 28, 2026) to build a dedicated Kazakh logistics terminal at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas, per The Astana Times. Iran is allocating a 15-hectare plot, with the terminal's projected capacity at 1.5 million tons of cargo per year. Kazakh officials say the $25 million investment uses no state funds, and the project aims to plug Kazakhstan into the International North-South Transport Corridor. Current Iran-Kazakhstan bilateral trade is estimated at around $400 million, which Kazakh officials say the project could double or triple.
