Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS on the morning of Friday, October 9, 2026 (17 Mehr 1405) that Masoud Pezeshkian sent no message to Donald Trump during last night's meeting with Vladimir Putin in Turkmenistan. He explained that because an opportunity to talk had arisen, the two presidents held the meeting, which had been planned for Friday, a day early, on the evening of Thursday, October 8 (16 Mehr). Putin travelled to Turkmenistan for the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Caspian environmental summit, and the leaders of all five Caspian littoral states, Pezeshkian among them, are attending.
According to Al Jazeera, citing Russian media, Putin told Pezeshkian at the meeting that Moscow is ready to "do everything we can" to help end the US-led war on Iran and that Iran is making real efforts to end the conflict. Peskov called Iran's participation in the "CIS Plus" format very important.
