Trump Rules Out Attacking Iran Before the Midterm Elections
9 October 2026 · yesterday
US President Donald Trump said in a Truth Social post published late on Thursday, October 8, 2026 (16 Mehr 1405), that Washington was holding “productive discussions” with Iran and would not attack the country before the US midterm elections. On Friday, October 9 (17 Mehr), Al Jazeera reported that oil prices fell in early trading; Trading Economics also reported a decline in oil prices on Friday after the remarks.
The coincidence of lower oil prices with the post does not mean tensions have ended. For Iran’s markets, the news matters through concerns about oil supply and regional risk.
