Losses at Jinko, JA Solar and Tongwei Cut Into China's Solar Boom in First Half of 2026

28 August 2026 | 2 months ago

According to a Bloomberg report carried by Oilprice.com on Friday, 6 Shahrivar 1405 (August 28, 2026), three of China's top solar companies, Jinko Solar, JA Solar Technology and Tongwei, reported deepening losses in their first half results for 2026, reflecting weak demand for solar equipment both at home and abroad.

The report said new solar capacity additions in China fell to 72.07 gigawatts in the first half of the year, down from 212.2 gigawatts in the same period last year. JA Solar said in a statement cited by Bloomberg that the industry still faces temporary and structural overcapacity. China's solar equipment exports fell 21.4 percent year on year last month, after Beijing canceled an export tax rebate for the sector in April. Even so, China's total installed solar capacity reached 1,274 gigawatts by the end of June, near the country's total coal fired capacity of 1,275 gigawatts.
