Monthly Construction Material Inflation Hits Zero in Mordad; Rebar and Cement Down Up to 10 Percent

9 August 2026 · 2 months ago

Donya-e-Eqtesad reported, based on field interviews with homebuilders in Tehran and other major cities and online price tracking of at least 10 building materials, that month-on-month inflation in mostly domestically produced construction materials hit "zero" in Mordad 1405 (which began in late July 2026) compared with the prior month. Prices of some heavily used materials for early-stage construction, including rebar and cement, are down 5 to 10 percent from their mid-spring 2026 peak. Builders cited three reasons for the relative calm: the end of uncertainty from the 40-day war, a halt in exports of some building materials, and the relative stability of the dollar rate in recent weeks. Even so, the cost of building one square meter of housing in Tehran remains 80 to 90 percent higher than the same time last year.
