Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said on NBC News' "Meet the Press" on the evening of Sunday, 5 Mehr 1405 (27 September 2026) that Iran is ready to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as part of an agreement to end the war, and that in return it wants its frozen money and assets released and to be able to sell its oil. He said Iran is ready both for diplomacy and for war.

In the same interview Araghchi criticised the US rejection of Iran's seven-day plan, saying it could have returned normal life to the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. Addressing Mike Waltz, the US ambassador to the UN, who also appeared on the programme, he said Washington must explain why it turned the plan down.
This is the foreign minister's most explicit statement yet tying a Hormuz reopening to the release of assets and oil sales, among the key variables for Iran's currency, gold and oil markets right now.
