Parliament Energy Committee Spokesman Says Fourth-Tier Gasoline Price Hike Is Off the Table for Now
21 August 2026 | 2 months ago
Abdolreza Sepahvand, spokesman for parliament's Energy Committee, in comments carried by Young Journalists Club and relayed by Donya-e-Eqtesad at 5:31 a.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, said a gasoline price increase is not certain and the government is weighing three scenarios, with cutting consumption prioritized over raising prices. He said the previously floated 87,200-toman figure was never implemented and there is currently no plan for a fourth price tier.
Sepahvand said the plan already running in Kerman since the start of Mordad, which adds a 5,000-toman gasoline quota to fuel cards, has been successful, and a fourth tier could eventually be offered to heavy consumers or luxury car owners. On reserves, he said the situation is adequate though lower than last year, while refinery output has risen by about 10 million liters versus a year earlier.
