Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said today, Monday, 26 Mordad 1405 (August 17, 2026), that the committee approved a clause at its Sunday, 25 Mordad session banning transit through the Strait of Hormuz for all vessels owned by Israel or carrying cargo bound to or from Israel. According to Ecoiran, citing ISNA, the clause is part of a bill called the "Strategic Action for Securing and Sustainably Developing the Strait of Hormuz," known as the Martyr Tangsiri law.
Azizi said that once the law receives final approval from Iran's competent authorities, Israel will be barred entirely from presence or transit in the Strait of Hormuz. The measure was announced as vessel traffic through the strait has fallen sharply in recent weeks amid the US naval blockade and reported attacks on oil tankers.
